My favourite theme, Luthien and Huan just to celebrate my return.
A lazának szánt kompozíció átjött, a szokott testarány-ábrázolási hibáim (túl nagy fej, kis végtagok) szintén. Nekem azért tetszik minden hibája ellenére.
Well, I forgot something or went on the line of the contrast I have mentioned before...
Huan, is a dog. He can be a simbol of various things. One of them is the helper I wrote above. His loyality which is connected to his dog nature, can imply that. Dogas are domesticated animals, I mean the wildness of the wolf now serve the hunamkind in them. They can be translated as serving beasts in other words so they can be the simbol of locked wildness even if it was them who chose that destiny. And there is Luthien in the picture in front of Huan as the simbol of all those who domesticated the dog and from this point of view she is the lock which pervents Huan's wild nature to come out. But acording to the story they are friends not sire and slave. What makes them so casual and so close? I think the fact that neighter of them are only sire or only slave. In fact both of them are both. Huan freed himself from serving his former masters and at the same time Luthien freed herself from the prison in that she was locked. This similarity can bring the tenderness of their relationsship; they seem to have the same fate.
But according to the story again Huan dies before the happy ending can come. Why? If they have the same fate, wouldn't it be fair to share that form the begining to the end? Or there is something else that we should consider? I think, we definetly should.
Huan is a simbol, but not only as a dog, but a free dog, who has in fact no masters. From this point of view not only Huan is the simbol, but his act of freenig himself. By this his death is reasonable after Luthien freed herself too. In that case Huan was the simbol of the freedom of the girl, the unlocked beast. Considering all of these, in this picture not a friendship is depicted, but only a girl, who freed herself from the limiting circumstances form that she had to suffer from before.
Going a bit farther we can say that in this picture the soul is depicted; the beast-like superego, and the human-like ego - freudish a bit I know. In the tale of Luthien finally the superego - the one that consists of desires - finds peace, when the ego gets rid of the limiting circumstances and finally they together get the happy ending.
I have already told you, but I feel really should go into details - besides I want to be the first to comment this piece of art - ; it's true that the theme has remained almost the same as your previous drawings' but some parts have really changed.
First of all as I can remember it is the first picture of yours in which Luthien is neighter running nor locked nor in the woods dancing. About the latest state it is worth mentioning that in the story of hers it is a period when she is locked though but doesn't know anything from the outside world that would wake desire in her to escape. In other words she is locked, but doesn't care. So this picture differs from the previous ones in that there is no sign of Luthien's beeing captioned. Here is is calm and casual.
Secondly I would like to say some words about Huan. He is a character who turns up in your drawings several times as you have already mentioned in the case of another piece of art; "The unselfish helper of the backstage". Huan's position in the picture refers to that as well - he is technically in the background, only his head can be seen.
Thirdly some words about Huan's head. The restlesness that is implied by the dog's vigilance; ears pointed at the sky etc... makes a quite good contrast with Luthien's casualty. This accompanied with the foreground/background contrast makes the drawing's poarity. I mean in the background the is stiffness and vigilance in the foreground there is casualty and restness.
On the whole it is a picture that depits the casualty/stiffness contrast quite good with proper tools, and differs from your pervious pieces of art several ways - see above.
